JUBILEE LIGHTING
A WEEK'S EXTENSION
• The Jubilee illuminations arranged by the Public Works Department and the City Corporation for the celebration of the Royal Jubilee are to be continued for another week, in view of the fact that many citizens were unable to see the lighting displays on account of the unfavourable weather during the past week. • A suggestion made by the civic authorities that the illuminations on Government buildings should continue has been agreed to by the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. J. Bitchener), and accordingly, if the weather is favourable, those who were kept indoors this week should have an .opportunity in the coming week of seeing Wellington, illuminated by night. 7
■ Mr.'G. Lauchlan, general manager of the electricity department, stated today that the cost of the lighting was infinitesimal, and as the weather during the week had been unfavourable and children had not had a good opportunity ;of seeing the illuminations, it had been decided to continue them for a further week. Mr. Lauchlan added that he had been inundated with? applications by parents. that the streamers of coloured lights and other decorations should riot be removed for a while yet. . .
