TURKISH STRAITS
INTENTION TO FORTIFY
ASSUMPTION UNJUSTIFIED
(Received May 10, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 9. The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (Sir John Simon) replying in the House of Commons to a question in regard to the fortification of the Turkish Straits, stated that he had no information which would justify the assumption that Turkey contemplated any violation of her obligations under the Straits Convention of Lausanne, such as would "be involved by her fortification of the Straits at the present time.
