CITY COUNCIL.

Mr".* W. Appleton has been a member of the City Council for the last four years. He is an accountant by profession, and is now retired. He has been engaged In local body and social service work for twenty years; was a member of the Onslow. Borough Council, and also served on the Hospital .Board. Mr. W.H. Bennett has been a city councillor, for 20 years, four of them as deputy mayor. He,took an active part in bringing about the amalgamation of Karori with the city; was four years chairman of the libraries' and legislation committee; is chairman of the-re-serves committee. He was elected to the City Council in 1931. Mn C. p. Chapman, M.P. (Labour) has served on the Wellington City Council for twelve years. Harbour Board ten years, Hospital Board eight f ,years, Technical College Board eleven years. He contested the-Mayoralty in , 1911, 1925, and 1927. For some years he was president of;/the Wellington Bed Cross Peace Time Centre. He was . elected for Wellington North in 1928. Mr. J. H. Collins (Labour) is a keen student of civic affairs and is closely , associated with the .political and in- . dustrial Labour movement.' Mr..T. Forsyth (Citizens) has been a city councillor for several years. He has been; a Member of Parliament, and was for sixteen years chairman of the Wellington Educatioa Board. He has served on' numerous committees.

Mr. P. Fraser (Labour) has represented Wellington Central since 1918, and was a .city councillor from 1919 to .1923, resuming his seat in June, 1933.: Heis.a former president of. the New, Zealand Labour Party; has been secretary of the ParUameritary Labour Party since 1919, and is now Deputy Leader; president of the Wellington Labour Representation Committee. He was runner-up in a three-cornered Mayoral contest in i 923.

Mr. W. J. Gaudin (Citizens) has had many years' service as a city councillor. He has served on most of the council committees- at various times, and is a member of the' Technical School Board. He was born in Wellington and is a successful merchant.

Mr." C. J. Hay (Labour) has been chairman of the Mirainar branch of the New Zealand Labour Party for the last five years. He is also a member of the Blood Transfusion' Service. He was'a candidate, for the City' Council at the last municipal elections.

Mr. P. D. Hoskiris (Citizens) was before' his retirement' from the Public Service ' assistant accountant at the General'Post'Office. A: Huggins " (Citizens) has been a meriiber of 'the City Council for ten years.' He was chief accountant in the head office of the Post arid Telegraph 'Office, arid Controller of the-Post Office Savings Bank; for 17 years a member of the Public Service Superannuation Board; has served on every - committee in the council; a member of St. ' John Ambulance; teustee of-Fielden Taylor's Men's Shelter and Mission; member of the Victoria University College Council.

Mr. M. F. Luckie (Citizens) was for eighteen \; years continuously ori the council' (191331); the last six as deputy mayor. In 1931 he contested the Mayoralty; has served on numerous comihittees, -and represented the council on the Technical Education Board, Victoria College - Council, and the Wellington Fire .Board. '"

Mr. R. L". Macalister (Citizens) in 1933 missed, aseat on the council by a narrow margin after . a recount. He is a lawyer by profession, and has specialised in property and financial work. Before becoming a" partner in his present firm, was assistant solicitor to, the Public Trust Office.

R.,McKeen, M.P. (Labour), was born in' Edinburgh, and took an active part -,in the Labour and co-operative movement's. He has held, the secretaryship of several New Zealand unions and of the' Wellington Labour Representation Committee. He has represented Wellington South in Parliament since 1922 and has been a councillor since 1925.

Mr. L. S. W. McKenzie (Citizens) was < a member of the City Council from 1911 to 1923, resigning to go abroad; was again elected in 1933. He is a pharmaceutical, chemist,by profession; '•' has taken much interest in sport, gardening, and botany. He is a member of the Suburban Highways Board, and an ex-member of the Hospital Board.

Mr. M. Ormerod (Communist), has been the organiser lor the National Unemployed Workers' movement for some time; has played a leading part in -important unemployed demonstrations in Wellington and other centres; was an'active member of the WesternAustralia Seamen's Union before coming -to New; Zealand.

Mr. A. Parlane (Labour) has been a candidate for the City Council on three occasions. He has held the following positions:—President, Wellington. Drivers' Union, Wellington Trades and -Labour Council,- Wellington. Labour Representation Committee, Wellington School Committees' Association, and of the Wadestown and Highland Park Progressive Association; chairman of the Wadestown School Committee for past 12 years; secretary of the Wellington Drivers' Union.

Mr./Jl ,W; Rarisoh' (Labour)i.born in Victoria, has had a long business life in •Wellington. In 1917 he 'organised the retail side of the,fruit trade and was secretary of the Retail Fruit Traders' Association for several'years. He has been, connected' with the Labour movement since 1917. He/was a candidate for the council in 1931.

Miss C. A. Rawcliffe (Communist) played an active part in the 'Hotel and Restaurant Worker's' Union, representing that organisation on the Trades and Labour Council and the Labour Representation Committee. Since joining the Communist Party has played an active role in the National Working Women's movement.

Mr. John Read (Labour) has taken an* active part in., the New Zealand Labour Movement since 1900. He is president of the Trades and Labour Council, an office he has filled formerly. He is secretary of the Wellington Fruit Trade Association.

Robinson (Communist) is one of the foundation members of the Communist Party; took a leading part in the West Coast Communist Federation between the years 1923 and 1927; has served many periods of imprisonment for his political activities.
