COST OF WHEAT
(To, the Editor.)
Sir, i have read with interest the replies of "X" and "A-W." to my previous letter and I gladly supply to "A.W." the cost of landing wheat at Wellington oil the wharf' (without wharfage) as follows:—Cost of wheat, 4s 3d to 4s 4d f.o.b. Lyttelton; freight, 17s 6d ton, 5.62 d; insurance, .05d; exchange, .06d. Total, 4s 9.73 d. So that "A.W." will see that New Zealand wheat from the South Island can be landed c.i.f.e. Wellington at actually a fraction under 4s 9d per bushel if purchased at 4s 3d f.o.b.
I note from "X's" reply that it is as | I suspected, he purchased only a small parcel and expected to get it for the) rate he would pay for a large parcel) on the wharf. At the same time Ij agree with him that he should not have had to pay this rate for rubbish and there is certainly something wrong j with, his supplier. The remedy is in I "X's" own hands as he need not patronise that supplier in the future.—l am, etc.,'. . . • I ■'■ ' ' . .;.■•■ YZ' Christchurch, April Jl.
