POTATO MARKET

AUSTRALIA'S FULL SUPPLY

IMPORTS NOT WANTED

(Received April 10, noon.)

CANBERRA, This Day.

A deputation comprising Senators and members of the Federal House of Representatives waited on the Deputy Leader of the Government (Dr. Earle Page) and the Minister of Trade and Customs (Mr. T. W. White) to protest against the proposal to admit New Zealand potatoes into Australia. The speakers declared that the introduction of even a limited amount of potatoes on a fully-supplied market would inevitably depress the market and cause many growers to abandon their holdings. Dr. Page promised to bring the deputation's remarks before Cabinet.

It was announced by cable yesterday that Mr. Wriite had arranged to leave for New Zealand at the end of the month to revive negotiations for a trade agreement between Australia and New Zealand.
