A CHARMING AFTERNOON

Mrs. Gordon Forbes's pretty home, in Burnell. Avenue was ' crowded with guests yesterday afternoon, when she entertained a number of friends to a very delicious tea, with sweet and savoury additions, which were all much appreciated.

The tea table in the dining-room was artistically arranged with trails of vivid Virginia creeper, and a large central floating bowl with a dainty marble figure surrounded with prize dahlias in tones of pink and deep rose (from the garden of a friend at Lower Hutt). In the drawing-room were autumn leaves and flowers, all charmingly arranged. The hostess received in a reception frock of rose cendre crepe de chine, with yoke and inset panels of ing'lace. . • V A very attractive item was the reading of teacups by an expert, who said many nice things about characters and attainments, etc., and was a most popular person.
