LEGIONNAIRES DESERT

Si^ty-seven members of the Foreign Legion, who were transported from North Africa to the Saar, at the expense of the French War Ministry, to vote in the plebiscite, have, according to the. "Jour," deserted and joined the Reichswehr. The paper states that in all 81 Legionaries, who had the right to vote in the plebiscite, were taken to Forbach, on the French side of the frontier, and quartered in the barracks of the Bth Light Infantry battalion. Only eight of the 75 Legionaries who went to vote iresisted the German offer and returned to the Legion.
