ON iWINGATUI TRACKS

THIS MORNING'S GALLOPS

(By Teleg?.-aph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day. .The weather-conditions, were ideal for the semi-final. gallops at Wingatui this morning. The centre of the course proper and the plough track were available for fast work,, and the track proper next to the rails for the two-year-olds. Grand Finale, and .Travenna were sent six furlongs on the course proper. The former was going. much better at the finish, the task taking him Imin 20sec. Unless tracks are -softer, and there does, not appear to be much1 chance of this, Travenna is an; unlikelystarter at the meeting. Money Flies, the first visitor to arrive, was given a sprint over .half a mile on the course proper, and moved well. The" two-year-old Sunny Jean ■ and Lady Leighton ran half a mile in 54sec. Lycidas and Red Lance were ; companions over seven furlongs 'oh the plough, and galloped well to cover the distance in Imin 32 2-ssec. The former was going the better at the finish and is now very well. Dissemble beat Braw Lad: over six furlongs on the plough in Imin 19sec. Prince Tractor began slowly, but was finishing on strongly at the end of six furlongs in lmih 26sec. The Dart filly in A. S.. McKay's stable beat Flout over five furlongs on the plough, the last half-mile in 52 3-5 sec, Pala Melba and Blue Metal finished together over six furlongs on the same track, the last ;five furlongs in 64 2-ssec. The two-year-olds Jack Homer and Waltham took 54 l-ssec to run' half a mile next to the rails, and finished on even terms. Colonel Crawford effected a surprise by beating Morena over seven furlongs on the plough in Imin 35sec. This is not Morena's true form. Latitude and Ramo were companions in a gallop over five furlongs in Imin 3 2-ssec. There was very little between them at the finish. .Foreign Star, who is now carrying a much-improved appearance, and Gold Tax were sprinted three furlongs along the back, both moving well. Kamal Pasha, with his trainer up, easily accounted- for Meadow Lark over five furlongs in Imin , 3 4-ssec. I This time could have been improved on by the former. I The two-year-old piking ran half a I mile next to the rails in 51 2-ssec, I finishing on strongly. . ' | Chhota, Linguist,- and .Umtali were I companions over five furlongs'. . The' last-named was soon left behind, and' Chhota beat Linguist by a good head I in Imin 4 l-ssec, but appeared to have a good deal in hand over the last fur-' long. i A large number were worked at' from half to three-quarter pace.
