UPPER HUTT RATES
Concerning the collection of rates, the Town Clerk (Mr. R. C. Major).reported at the meeting of the..Upper Hutt Borough Council on < Friday that the 10 per cent, penalty was imposed on all rates outstanding after February 7. The collections'to date -were as follows: —Rates struck, 1934----35, £8692 14s 3d; collected on the current year's rates, £7308 11s 9d; arrears, £2016 16s lid; total, £9325 8s Bd. The percentage of the current year's rates collected to date) represented 84 per cent, and of arrears 50 per cent. The total collection to, the date of imposing the penalty this year and last was: 1935, £9325 8s 8d; 1934, £9264 13s 2d. After taking into consideration that £985 less was struck this year than last, the collections to date were very satisfactory.
