Tho A grade championship in tlic Mercantile Cricket League competitions is now very open as the result of the leading team, State "Fire, experiencing their third defeat on Saturday. Five teams may be considered in the 1 mining, with only three points separating them. State Firo have 24 points, Customs 23, Roseneath 22, and Smith and Smiths and Cowans 21 each. Good bowling by Young and Condon, and batting by A. Martin, was mainly responsible for giving Eoseneath a first innings win over State Fire. An outright win was scqred by Cowans ajb the expense of Overseas.
