Sir Herbert Robson, addressing the Empire Society, criticised" Government control of wheat marketing. ■■ Almost weekly, he said, some Government piled on a new restriction preventing grain merchants from trading. International trade would not improve until currencies returned to a metal base and grain was allowed to move mort. freely. Excepting in Belgium and Holland, bread prices throughout Europe were abnormally high and quality;.abnormally low, because countries were,aiming at self-dependence owing to .wartime shortages. Further Governments were putting obstacles in the way of .the importation of whett owing to the ; difficulty in financing imports.. ~ ■
