NEW SPEEDWAY SEASON
Preparations are now well in hand for the reopening of the Kilbirnie Stadium tor the purpose oi holding broadeiUing meetings biinilur to those .conducted up to three yeais ago. Wellington was one of the strongholds of the sport when it previously held sway m the Dominion and produced a number, ot keen and talented riders most of wlfoiu are ready and anxious to got into action again. The track has been put into fir«t-clate order and regular practices have been held betoie liuge attendances of the public. The practices have included triajs for the purn,ooe of selecting teams to represent Newtown and tho city in the teams races to be held on the opening night, Saturday, February 9. Some fast times have been registered, particularly by Tonks, Wilkinson, Phillips,' and Appleyard. Among the newcomers Young continues to improve and is now able to pace it with most of the1 experienced riders. An additional attraction on tho first night will bo provided by tha presence of two of Australia's Tcet riders, Lionel Van Pragg and Dick Case. It i6 possible that D. Mnttion, the Auckland champion, will also compete,
