JUST HUMOROUS
(Special to the "Evening Port,")
PALMERSTON N., This Day, A suggestion from the Wellington Cricket Association that minor association players who had' pretensions to New Zealand status should make arrangements to spend one or more seasons in the large centres for the sake of extra' experience in bctter*grade cricket met with a humorous reception at a meeting of the Manawatu Cricket Association last evening. The recommendation was made in the course of an explanation legarding Manawatu's protest at the non-inclusion of minor association representatives in the Plunket Shield team.
"Isn't that a hummer!" That was all the secretary had to say.
The Wellington Association also suggested a conference of all associations in the Wellington shield district as the best way of overcoming present difficulties, and this was approved wholeheartedly with a recommendation that the meeting be held during tho days the North v. South match was in progress. Mr. A. M. Ongley (chairman) observed that if country representatives were not going to be allowed to play in Plunket Shield games, then the conditions of shield matches should be altered so as to allow anyone to challenge for the trophy. It was also decided to ask the Wellington Association to detail how it had expended the £750 it is reported to have spent on country cricket in the last ten years. . Members were of opinion that the Town v. Country match should not have been dropped. "Even if they think we are no good, they could at least give xm the chance of showing ourselves," commented the chairman.
