BOWLING
VETERANS' GALA DAY
There was a large attendance this afternoon at the opening of the veterans' gala day- matches at tho Wei* lington Bowling Club's green.
Mr.- W. Gilbert, president -of the Wellington' Bowling Centre, welcomed tho veteran bowlers and their friends. Ho extended, a special' welcome to four players from Mastcrton?and one from Levin. He also made special mention, of Mr. A. -Mills, of the Johnsonville Club, who is 93 years of age, and Mr. S. Roberts, ,of. the Newtown .Club, the next oldest1 bowler,' who is 90' years of age. Mr. Gilbert, thanked tho ladies who, had so kindly come along to look after the wants of the bowlers. He also thanked the- Wellington BowlingClub for placing its green and pavilion at the disposal of the' centre for this function.
After Mr. Mills ha^ thrown the silver kitty, and Mr. Roberts had rolled tho' first bowl, the games commenced. There are 128 bowlers 70 years andover .who are taking part in the games.
