GRATEFUL GOES WELL
PROSPECT AT WANGANUI
GLENVANE LOOKS PICTURE
(Special from "Hurry On.")
NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day.
Tho trucks at Now Plymouth continue to be in excellent order and the trainers are making free use of both tho trial grass and the plough. Only four horses, Glenvauo, Merry Way, Ythan, and Grateful, will be competing at Wanganui tomorrow, but they are in good condition and should be able to give good accounts of themselves.
Grateful was responsible for a great trial yesterday morning when he accounted for Golden Kill over five furlongs in linin 2sec on the trial grass. The Eaceful two-year-old went well throughout and finished full of running. Ho looks a much-improved horse since racing at Stratford and should not bo without prospects in the juvenile events at Wanganui, where he will be ridden by H. N. Wiggins. Ythan was responsible for a good effort for. a hurdler when ho finished oh terms with Chief Marionette at the conclusion of six furlongs on tho same track in lmin 16, 3-ssec. Ho was always going well and1 finished strongly. He waß schooled over six fences on Monday morning, and though he rapped two his display was satisfactory, as he seldom schools well in private. He .will be ridden by his trainer, H. Dulieu, tomorrow. .' . Neither* Glcnvano nor Merry .Way was asked to go fast, but they are both in excellent condition, especially Glenvane, who is looking a picture. Ho will be ridden by W. J. Broughton, who was successful. on him .at Stratford, and E. Seed will have the .mount on Merry Way. , This qua.rtet were to leave for Wanganui' this afternoon. . Aussie Ba, Courtega, and Lalla Quex did useful tasks. They look none the worse for their racing at Troritham and Ashhurst, Aussie Ba especially having come through in good stylo. Lalla Quex disappointed badly at Ashhurst, but she looks well enough and should not be long in making amends. Davistock, who did not race last week, is looking bright and well. He hit'out'frejely ove^r a couple of rounds of .pace work, sprinting home over'the last two furlongs the second time. H. Dulieu's two maidens, Bingside and Bay Sand, were associated over half a mile in Sljsec, both going comfortably at the end. They should be capable of racing prominently at the Taranaki and Egmont Meetings.
