SERVICE MEDALS

Intimation has been received by the Chief Commissioner, St. John Ambulance Brigade, that his Royal Highneep the Grand Prior has apprdved of the issue of the service medal and service medal bar of the Order to the following members of the brigade overseas within the Dominion of New Zealand:— Service Medal.—District Superintendent A, W. Probert, Auckland: Lady Ambulance Officer L. K. Sykos, Brooklyn Nursing Division; Sergeant P, Davies and Private A. Relpli, Wanganui Division; Lady Divisional 'Superintendent R. Ferguson, Lyttclton Nursing Division; Lady Divisional Superintendent . L. Conway, St. Matthew's Nursing Division (Christchurch): Divisional Superintendent E. G. Gray, Kaiapoi Division: Ambulance Sisters M. Starving and L. Mclllwraith, Oamaru Nursing Division. Bar to Service Medal.—Assistant Commissioner (Reserve) A. O. Richardson, Wellington; Divisional Superintendent F. S. Bonnington, Christchureh Railway Division; Ambulance Sisters M. Virtue ' and S. Davies, Christchureh Nursing Division. In the Auckland district the St.' John Ambulance has recently undertaken several cases of aerial ambulance transport. ,In one case a patient, with a St. John attendant, was taken from Auckland to Opotiki, in the Bay of Plenty, while the aeroplane curried another patient on the return journey. Another recent ambulance transport case by air,was-from Auckland to Hawera. The Wellington Hospital Board has expressed itself as beinff very appreciative of the- valuable voluntary services which are rendered by ambulance sisters oE the St. John Ambulance Brigade in Wellington, and has asked that those concerned be informed accordingly. Members of the various nursing divisions in Wellington take turn in attending at the Wellington Hospital on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and while acquiring much ■useful training and information for themselves, enable a certain portion of the regular staff to be relieved.
