Welcome rain accompanied by thunder and a few lightning flashes brought a fortnight'« dry spell to a closo in the Manawatu yesterday and last night. The rain, in addition to allaying the heat, which reached 81deg on Satuiday (tho lecoid so far this year), supplied much-needed, moisture for sun-baked gardens. '.'■■■■■ • :
