In due ' course the existing certificates of membership would be recalled and now ' ones bearing the institute's amended 1 titlp would bo issued in their place. The examination syllabus had been completely revised and was considered ; now to bo more appropriate to New Zealand conditions. The work of revision was entrusted to Messrs. G. N. Boulton (member of the council) and V. Neve, M.A., LL.B. (chairman of | the Board of Founders), assisted by a special committee of the Otago Chapter, to whom the council was greatly indebted for their effort in that direction. "Since tho publication- of this new syllabus a well-merited response has been manifest and it is expected that the ensuing year will see a largo number of candidates v enter for tho institute's examinations." Tho accounts revealed a satisfactory position and showed «i surplus of income over expenditure- of £50 Is 9d for tho period under review, which now made a total of £215 5s 3d to the credit of tho accumulated fund. "The report is very satisfactory, and we also show a very good financial position," commented the president in moving tho adoption of the report and balance-sheet. Delegates from tho Auckland, 'Wellington, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland Chapters road their respective reports. All of them mentioned tho success of the institute during Mr. E. A. Wallace's term of office as president, which they said was due in •no small way to his efforts. Messrs. A. E. G. Lyttlo (Canterbury), G. J.. Garland (Auckland), and D. "L. Bono (Auckland), being tho only nominations, wore re-elected member's of tho council. Messrs. Maben and Porter, public accountants, of Auckland, were elected auditors for the ensuing year. Theirs was tho only nominations. The Mayor (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop) welcomed the delegates in a characteristically happy speech at a social function after tho formal business. It was a pleasure, He said, to see this large gathering of both sexes from all parts of New Zealand because it showed the .virility of the movement and the reliance that could be placed on such a strong and efficient body. In reply on behalf of' the. delegates.,. Mr. Garland, of the Auckland Chapter, thanked Mr. Hislop for his welcome. In semi-humorous vein, Mr. Garland remarked that a secretary had to do Bis owi thinking and that of his employer as well, whether the latter was a company, a local body, or a Minister of the Crown. Toasts honoured were those of "Tho King," "The Institute," "Kindred Societies," and "The Guests." A musical programme by Messrs. D. F., O. Ei., and F. A. J. Pcnnington, C. Edwards, N. Aitken, IT. Matthews, and Jv;W.t3arr added to the pleasure of the evening. A pleasing feature at tho congress was the presence of executives of kindred societies, including the following: Mr. D. G.~ Johnston (secretary of the New Zealand Society:'of Accountants, in the place of Mr.. H-. Valentine; the president, who was unable to attend through illness), Mr. F., 11. Bass (president of tho "Wellington Branch, Australasian Institute of Secretaries), Mr. J. L. Amis (immediate past president, Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand), Mr. C. D. Morpoth (secretary, Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand), Mr. J. C. Port (vice-president of the New Zealand Accountants' and Auditors' Association)/ Mr. E. W. Hunt (representative in New Zealand of tho Commonwealth Institute of Accountants), Mr. AY. F. Morrison (Now Zealand representative of the London Association of Accountants and of tho Federal Institute of Accountants of Australia), and Mr. G. E. Ashbridgo (secretary of tho New Zealand Educational Institute, and representative in New Zealand for the Association of Accountants of Australia). ____________
