8.8.C. DUAL PROGRAMME
NEW DROITWICH STATION
HIGH AERIALS AND POWER
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 6. The British Broadcasting Corporation's new dual programme transmitting station at Droitwieh was brought into commission today. Its long-wave transmitter, which will replace that at Davcntry, is designed for a power of .'lso' kilowatts to its aerial, which is at'least'three times that of any station previously built by the 8.8.C. The aerial is supported on masts 700 feet high, the highest previously used-.by the 8.8.C. being 500 feet. , '/" '' ;,'■'■. '•' ■ It is hoped, that Droitwieh, which has cost £230,000, will give satisfactory service under average atmospheric conditions to.nearly the w*hole of the British Isles, but it will nOt be possible to determine the exact performance, Of the.station until it has been in regular service for , at least a year and all types of atmospheric conditions haye been encountered. '■ During the next four weeks the new Droitwieh and old Daventry stations will take turns in a radio programme of 1500 metres wave-length to accustom listeners to the new station's much stronger signals. ;
