Conversations are proceeding at Rome and Paris, including several meetings between ftignor Mussolini, and Count do Cliumbnin, the French Ambassador at Rome. They niiti at a FrancoItalian pact. Reports have reached London that n comprehensive pact lias been concluded. These were later denied. Nevertheless, it is believed that a far-reaching pact is possible, and, if it "is signed, it will be one of tho most important safeguards for , European pence for years, resulting in FrancoItalian naval parity in regard to which agreement has been sought sinco tho London Naval Conference. Tho "Daily Mail's" Rome correspondent says that while negotiations for a Franco-Italian pact are only in a preliminary stage, it is impossible to hazard a guess as .to the outcome. It is certain, that Italy is animated by a sincere desire to reach an understanding. The movement away from Germany to France has been so rapid since Dr. Dollfuss's assassination that ItaloGerman relations have never been worse since the war and Franco-Italian relations never better.
