RAM MUTTON
(To the Editor.) Sir, —On reading the allegations that old rams were being killed in Masterton abattoirs for Mr. Bett and sold in' Wellington butchers’ shops, may I say, Sir, that there are not more than half a dozen shops where these are sold and where the public are more concerned about the price of a joint than the quality. After all, these rams are passed for human consumption by the Government inspectors. Sir, it is, time something was dope with the inspectors’ stamps. Every carcass that come into this city bears the words “Passed and inpeeted.” May I add these extra words to be placed on those stamps: —Wether mutton, cow beef, ox beef, ram, hogget mutton, spring lamb, a cow beef stamp to be stamped on a cow, and ox beef on an ox, etc. The public would then get what they ask and pay for. I know the : great majority of master butchers would be in favour of these extra words being inserted on the Government stock stamps.—l am, etc., A MODERN, BUTCHER.
