RAINBOW FAIR
JOHNSONVILLE EFFORT The ladies of the Johnsouville Methodist Church held a Rainbow Fair recently, when the hall was beautifully decorated in rainbow effects' by Mr. Johnson, jun., of Ngaio, and stalls were arranged to provide for the gifts of the congregation and friends. Mrs. McCombs, M.P., opened the fair with a short address which was full of her own reminiscences of similar functions where she had figured in all capacities from washing the dishes to selling .the goods. Such team work, she said, made for real success. In words of encouragement to' the. ladies, she expressed her conviction that the Christian spirit was the inspiration of all worthwhile effort, and even if the results were not immediately realised ultimately some time they would produce fruit. ■" The Rev. J. F. Martin thanked Mrs, McCombs for her interest, and Miss Lola Konch presented a bouquet to her. and also to Mrs. Sowerby, the president of the guild, hi the evening a programme of music and elocution was rendered by Mesdames AtcLelland and VV. Carman, Miss Lola Jvench, Master C'hns. Lawrence, Messrs. A. Hodda and Strong. The girls of the basketball team rendered a delightfully humorous item' entitled "The Bobtailed Nag." ■i The various stalls were staffed by the following: Sowing, .Mesilames Sowerby, Mcßride, and Kench; jumble, Mesdamos Stanbridgc, McLennan, and McKenzie; produce, Mesdames D. Morgan, Rice, and de Bidder; flowers, Mesdames Beaumont and McLelland; sweets, Mrs. AV. Carman and B.C. girls; cakes, Mesdames Joinerand Grant; tearooms, Mesdames Rodda, Halliday, Stevens, and Cullan; sideshows, the boys of the intermediate and junior Bible class. The funds of the church benefited by over £24 as a result of the fair.
