FAIRYLAND AGAIN

FOR HOME OF COMPASSION Many people, who were prevented by unfavourable weather from visiting the fairy-like grounds and glass houses at Mr. B. Sutherland's lovely place, " Homevrood," Karori, will-be glad to hear that another opportunity will be given them. Mr. Sutherland has kindly given permission for the grounds to be open again from today till September 24 (inclusive), when a small charge will be made for admission. This will be given in aid of the funds of the Home of Compassion, always a popular object, on account of the wonderful kindness shown to the poorest and most pitiful of human beings at that well-named place. Mr. Sutherland will always admit people to his beautiful gardens and conservatories, aviaries, fish-ponds, etc., if an admission fee (for charities) is paid, but this special arrangement has been made for the Home of Compassion, details being advertised in this issue. Few will need reminding that evening is the best time to see the place, for the rainbow-tinted fountains, exquisite coloured effects in the conservatories, where waterfalls show coloured mists and statuary, and curious gnomes, etc., gleam through the New Zealand ferns in wonderful variety. Jewel-like tiny birds, Japanese goldfish, and vivid blossoms of orchids and other flowers, all go to make up an enchanting vista of colour and form, that bring thorough enjoyment for visitors to this veritable fairyland.
