, The Wellington City Mission, always a. popular o.gaiikation from many po.iin; of vkw and specially on account of those who, having no means, need shelter and food, opened its "Daffodil Fair" in Ihe Town Hall this ..ltornuon to augment its funds. Daffodil is the leading idea. The .'lal! dcco:'atici!:i arc in those lovely ..uwers, the assistants being dressed n the colour, and all arrangements being made to tone with this cheerful tint and bring "sunshine" into the hall, no matter what the weather may be outside. There will be many attractions during next week. Mothers of families who are already thinking of Christmas gifts for the little ones are. sure to take pleasure in the wonderful doll stall, for indeed this is of outstanding merit. A Hutt lady, who has helped a number of stalls, has made ■a 'specialty of the dolls, and these are well worth seeing. A "donkey" has come all the way from Auckland, and is ridden by the famous friend of children, "Mickey Mouse." Dolls have been utilised in all kinds of attractive ways for adults as well. A "Marathon Contest" has been arranged, the candidates beLig: Lower Hutt, Miss' Betty Jarman; the Ladies' Guild, Miss Th'eda Moulynox; and the lady representing the Mission, Miss White. The produce stalls at the; Mission efforts are always specially attractive, for many good cooks make their special efforts for it, with excellent results. For luncheons, teas, and dinners, during the week many delicious things may. be bought. , For this evening the attractions will bo a tug-of-war, a dancing display by pupils of Miss Phyllis Oliver, gymnastic display under Miss Zena Clarke, music by the Wellington Municipal Tramways Band, and an exhibition of cooking at " Cookery Nook." - The stall-holders are as Book,* Mesdames Clarke, Dukes,: and Townley; sweets, Mrs. Murray : and helpers; cakes, Mesdames Allan and Upchurch; produce, Mesdames White, Smith, and Williams; flowers, the Misses Turton and Esther; fancywork, Girls' Bible Classes; 'kitchen, Mesdames Hunter and Jacobs and Miss Jackson; toy, Mesdames Anderson and -Williamson; ; drinks, Mrs. Sheedy; woollies, Mesdames Ilsley and Smith; children's, Mesdames Gibbs and Lapin; plain, Mesdames Miles and Cole; maypole dance, under Mrs. Quinton; side-shows, Collingwood Sea Scouts; art gallery, Mr. Wilson; ! cooking exhibition, by the . Wellington Gas Company; tug-of-war, Mr. Browne; tearooms, Mrs. jSTichol and helpers.
