WHOLESALE RATE UP
FACTORS IN INCREASE
. A, further increase of ■ a halfpenny per po,uhd, .the second within a' fortnight, in' the wholesale price of beef takes effect as from today. It is understood that a rise in tho retail price appears .inevitable. ■
■ On'inquiries ;being'inade as to the reason for the increase- a "Post" representative was informed that there was the usual scarcity of suitable fat stock at this timo of- year and the wholesale price had to be adjusted accordingly. Another factor was that the "higher' prices for.' mutton, which came into effect some" little timo ago, had created a, demand for beef and prices for livestock had hardened as a result.
