"A Handkerchief Tea."

Miss Mabel Jollands was guest at a delightfully informal "handkerchief" tea at the Hotel St. George on Saturday afternoon in honour of her approaching marriage. Tea was served in the Palm Lounge, the tables being charmingly decorated with spring flowers. Miss Muriel Shand, the hostess, was wearing a brown ensemble, and Miss Jollands a green flannel suit. Many pretty gifts were received by the bride-to-be. Among those present were Mesdames Shand, Wareham, G. M. Jenkinson, L. Tringham, F. Malcolm, G. Lidgett, Griffiths, W. Clarke; Misses E. Jollands, J. Aldous, N. Wareham, K. Lee, E. Shand, H. Falconer, P. Martin, M. Cowles, and N. Tressider. An Interesting Evening. That the monthly socials of the Wellington Repertory Theatre (Inc.) are growing in popularity is shown by the large number of members and friends who attended a recent social evening. Three one-act plays were presented, including "Drums" by Mr. B. B. O'Brien (a member of the society). TMa was well acted by Miss J. Baine, and Messrs. O'Brien, N. Hannah (the producer), and Eric Young..1 Miss M. Hardinge-Maltby produced an amusing farce with Misses Griffiths and M. McGimpsey and Mr. E. North in the cast. A third play was very capably produced by Mrs. John Hastings, with the following players: Mrs. Ina Allan, Mrs. Eileen Baldwin, Mr. Jasper Baldwin, and Mr. E. E. Le Grove. Mrs. Hastings concluded the programme with a number of appreciated sketches. After supper the club rooms were cleared for dancing. A Surprise Party. A very pleasant evening was spent on Saturday when Miss Gwyn Redmond "surprised" Miss Myra Harrap at her home in Kelburn with a large party of young people. Dancing = was enjoyed until a late hour. Among those present were Misses Florence McCosker, Dawn Bass, Gytha Howard (Hastings), Lmna Kessell, Elsie Stewart, Christina Bannister, Tassie Steele, Evelyn Robins, Oenone Marshall, Una Hutton (Napier). Messrs. Lyndsay Mair, John Grainger, Ted Forgie, Pat Harrap, John Marshall, Gerald Gibbons, Jack Griffiths, Bernard Forgie, Gordon Smith, Jack MeCosker, Bruce Clarke, Malcolm Bennie, Dcs Staee, Bex Sevier, Don Perry, Alan Kyle, John Anderson, Selwyn Toogood. Maurice Goodson, Parents Entertained. The pupils of the Thompson Street Kindergarten entertained their parents at a pleasant end-of-term afternoon. The programme was composed ofreeitations, songs, and choruses which were given by the pupils whose ages ranged from three to six years. . There was

also an interesting display of theiij work, including samples of their draw* ing, colouring, modelling, knitting, etc. j all of which showed a surprisingly <high, standard of attainment for children- so young.
