CIVIL SERVICE CLUB

The Civil Service Club shed its customary masculine aspect on Saturday evening and extended hospitality to the wives, daughters, and lady friends of members. Tor the time being the prosaic interior of the club was converted into a bright salon, decorated with streamers and bunting, and the guests danced with much enjoyment throughout the evening. The president of the club (Mr. H. W. C. Mclntosh) welcomed those present. The hostess of the evening was Mrs. E. Fullerton, who was presented by the committee with a bouquet. During the evening a Limerick competition was held for the ladies, and the prize went to a very original effort on the part of Mrs. Arrowsmith. Mr. H. F. (Tony) Wood delighted every one with tuneful renderings of several of his old favourites. The traditional bonhomie of club men was well exemplified by the assiduous attention given to the comfort and enjoyment of the ladies present. The function, which was considered to have been one of thi most successful held by the club, was arranged by the president (Mr. H. W. C. Mclntosh) and a committee consisting of Messrs. G. Tierney, J. D. Smith, J. Taylor, Captain Melndoe, F. Morgan, W. Bishop, T. G. McLaren, H. J. Clark, and W. H. Chittey (secretary). Messrs. J. W. Steel and J. H. Bussell acted very efficiently as M.C.s.
