COLD WEATHER COMING

Special forecast for Wellington:—

Temporarily fair, with fresli north-westerly winds. Cold, strong southerlies tomorrow, with heavy showers and hail at times.

For the Dominion as a "whole the forecast is for northerly winds at first on parts of the east coast, elsewhere moderate to strong, westerly to southwesterly in direction, but a further change to strong southerlios advancing shortly from the south, and becoming general in about 24 hours. The weather will bo unsettled, with rain at times in most districts. Snow is likely on the high levels and later hail in places. Temperatures will become cold. .

With a serios of low-pressure waves crossing New Zealand moderate ,to strong north to westerly winds have prevailed, reaching gale force in places, but since last night a southerly change has taken place in various places, more especially in the South Island. The southerly had extended up as far as Kaikoura this morning. Yesterday rain was confined to western districts from Taranaki southwards, whilo the -eastern and northern parts of the Dominion experienced mainly \fair weather. By this morning, however, rain had extended to the east coast of the South Island and conditions had become more unsettled generally.. The weather was flue in Auckland yesterday with a westerly breeze, although in tho afternoon it clouded over. At 9 a.m. today a fresh south-westerly wind was blowing, but the weather was still fair.

At Wellington a strong north-west-erly wind has continued to prevail) reaching gale force at times. The weather has been dull and threatening and between 6 and 9 a.m. today light rain amounting to two points fell. Lower Hutt haa 12 points. Christchuroh had dull, warm weather, a light wind from the west prevailing. This, morning a light south-westorjy-wind and misty conditions were reported. ' In Dunedin it was fine, but cloudy, with little wind. Light rain fell'there during the night, but this morning it was calm and fair.
