Invitations Issued.

The Maranui Surf and Life-saving Club (Inc.) has issued invitations tor the club's annual ball in the ■Masonic' Hall, The Terrace, on Wednesday next. Mesdames D. Claridge, L. Bridge, tf. Martindale, A. Raven, A. Rosie, and W. Stephen will be chaperons. Tie committee responsible is making excellent arrangements for the entertainment of guests. Mr. K. F, Hoy is secretary. The management of the New 400 Club has issued invitations for tho opening night of the club, which will be held in the new rooms in Hawkestone Crescent at an early date. The entertainment is being specially planned, and should offer-a dolightful evening to many guests. • Tho Eastbourne Football Club has issued invitations for its eighth annual dance, which will take the form of a fancy dress ball, in. the pavilion at Day's Bay. A great deal of good entertainment has boon arranged, and buses will be available to bring the guests back to town after tho dance. Ping-Pong Enthusiasts. An interesting and enjoyable evening was spent recently in a challenge game of ping-pong between the staffs of Ellis and Manton and Star Stores. Tho play was of a high standard, tho successful team being that of Ellis, and Manton. The team consisted of Messrs. Matthew, Grenfell, Waller,' and Gilmore, and Star Stores were represented by Messrs. McCrea, Burt, Gates, and A'llen. The Star Stores ladies' team, which won their tournament, consisted of Misses Howe, McCrea, and' Clark. Ellis and Manton's team comprised Misses Andrews, Hoskins, and Phillips. After the competitions the clubs adjourned to supper, when votes of thanks were proposed by Mr. E. Matthews, of Ellis and Manton's,.and .suitably replied' to by Mr. T. McCaulay, of "Star Stores. A Bridge Party. The iina! party, of a pleasant-little bridge circle, conducted at-the residence of Mrs. F. E. McDonald, Hatai--tai (in aid of the Kilbirnie School funds), was' held recently:' •. Mrs.' ;J. Laing won the prize for the highest aggregate score, and Miss Baudinet the "Secret Number" prize. Two special prizes were won by Miss Bates and Mrs. White. Thanks were given to Mesdames Croker, Dr'ayton, Laing, -WhuG. Hogan, and Misses Drake, Bates, and Baudinet for their regular attendancn ' , ■ Ohlro Home. The inmates of the Ohiro Home were entertained by-the ladies (and a few friends) of the Molesworth Street Methodist Church Bible Class. The visitors throughout the whole evening succeeded in delighting the old folks with their breezy song and humour. A light supper, a much-appreciated feature' of the programme, was provided by I tho visitors, and was followed by the thanks of the management and inmates | to their entertainers. This brought the pleasant evening to a close. Ottki Health Camp. i A most enjoyable bridge party was I held at Croydon School, Day's Bay, in aid of the Otaki Health Camp. Mrs. C. H. ,T. Skelley and Mrs. Roger Wilbeifoss were joint hostesses. Bridge was played in the dining hall, where later a buffet afternoon tea was served. Those making up tables were:—Mesdames Hoggard, Bakewell, Martin, Boyd, Hardeastle, Patterson, Butchers, Warburton, Miller, Hopkirk, Mayer, Press, Broad, Williams, Rockstrow, Vance, Nelson, Birch, Black; Richards, Chartres, Robinson, Moore, Childs, Andrews, Butt, Geddes, Wallace, Livings stone, Haughton, Girdlcstoue, Johnston, Misses F. Penney, Howden, and Isaacs. A Pleasant Reception. A very cordial reception was given last evening at the club rooms in the T. and G. Building in honour of Miss Blanche Clarke, who begins her now duties as assistant matron at Wellington General Hospital.today, There was a large number of friends present, and the party was an exceptionally pleasant one. Mrs. Tythe Brown received. the guests, and was assisted by presidents of various branches of the Plunket Society, among these being Mrs. Charles Richardson, Miss Barnett, Mrs. W. Luke, Mrs. Henry Hall, Miss Cameron, ana Miss Blsmic Ward (secretary of the Wellington branch). Miss Clarke was presented with a wristlet watch as an appreciation of her seven years-good work as matron of Karitane Hospital, also with a charming bouquet of pastel tinted frcesias and polyanthus. A message ot remembrance was sent by Sir Truby King who was unable to be present. Supper was served, and concluded a very delightful evening.

Obituary. The death occurred hi a private hospital on Monday of Mrs. Kwding, widow of Mr. H. P. Kisshng, lormcr > general manager of tho^ew Zealand Insurance Company, states the >.c* Zealand Herald." Mrs. Staling, who before Tier ™^W™*"'}s?™ r hill of Ballarat, had lived for many years at St. Stephen's Avenue, and was a well-known and much respected resident of Parnell. -She is survived by two sons, Mr. Trevor.-a Kissling, of Parnell and Mr. John H. Kissling, of XT'toff of Massey College, and one daughter, Mr,. ST..MouH of Hawcra. There arc two grandchildren.
