THE HUNTS MEETING

FINAL TRIALS ON TRACK

(Special front "Hurry On.")

NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day

:Gonditions at Now Plymouth were perfect yesterday morning when tho horses wore given their final trials for the combined Hunts Meeting. All the galloping took place on the course proper with the ilags fairly well out.. Most or! the visiting horses have now arrived.

Superior was trotted and cantered on the inside grass." She galloped on Monday morning,-and is a fit filly. Tho two-year-olds Golden Rill and Grateful wore exercised on the same track. '■

Illuminate, with a .fair weight up, was sent seven furlongs. He went fast down the back, running the first halfnile in 52scc, but'he was slowing up at the finish to register lmin 37sec for the full distance.

Landlubber cantered once round 'on the plough and was then taken on to tho course proper and allowed to run: home from the threo. furlongs post at three-quarter pace. Ho bears a welltrained appoarance, and has evidently benefited by his race at Ellerslio. .■ Davistock was -going- nicely half a length in front of. Lalla Quex, with Sleepy two lengths away, at tho conclusion of six furlongs in lmin SlJsec. Davistock carried out his task in good style. Sleepy showed fair pace for a hunter. .

Leo Colossus led Orapai over the first two furlongs of a half-milo dash, but Orapai beat him [horn« by a head. They ran the first two in 25J-see, and the full distance in-53 l-ssec. Orapai carried out his task in great style and had plenty in reserve at-tho end. Courtega and Adept were under a strong pull over six furlongs, the last five taking lmin 12see. Courtega is in great heart, and was going well at the finish. , ,

1 General Qucx and Headmistress, ridden right out, covered half a mile in 52 3-ssec, after rujming the first two iir 25see. The three-year-old was inclined to climb a little at the finish, l>ut it was a good gallop. . . . Taliurangi and Gold Mitssion occupied 52 4-ssee for the, same distance. The latter was" going nicely at the -finish. Her last two efforts liavo been attractive, and should she jump out cleanly she would not be without prospects in the maiden. Ythan and. Count Lendroff hit out freely over a circuit at a good three-quarter pace. Poterio surprised by comfortably beating Red Fox and Ringside.over five furlongs in lmin 7Jsec. This was a big, improvement on Poterie's previous efforts' and she carried out her task in. an attractive fashion. Red Fox finish-, ed on, solidly. ' ' ■ ■ . n Coohoor, .who arrived on Monday ni"ht, was restricted :to steady pace work on the plough. He bears a bright appearance. His stablemate Peters Pence is a. fine-looking horse, but lie was only allotted'an. easy task. , Rafcor was given strong work on_ the plough, hitting out in good style.
