AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

The third round of the.Wellington provincial billiards championship was concluded last night. - . The opening was between A. Duncan, champion (V.M.C.A.), and W. N. Tucker, ex-champion (Federal Club), the former winning by 300 to 170. Play throughout was very tight, and practically' no chances were taken. In'{attempting the initial break-up Tucker misctfed, and left easy position for T>uriean, who made 26, an advantage which he^extended; by several small scores which followed,'his first 100 being reached with Tucker s-lscore practically unopened: Though. Petersen (Wor* ing Men's Club) defeat«l H, P. Harnn» ton (P. and T. Social and literary. CM* by 300 to 250. Ability was shown by th» loser, but Petersen's consistency made tl* difference, and although the latter w* perhaps the luckier the score was a.reasoiir able indication o£ the respective merit*. Petersen's best breaks were^e 24, 2u, 2;» 21, and Harrington's 26, 22, 24, 27. The semi-finals wffl be opened at 7 o'clock this evening, when H. bhanka (Working Men's Club) will meet S. M. U. Simpson (G.P.O. Club). At 8 o'clock A. Duncan will meet W. Petersen. .
