A ROTARY PARTY

FATHERS AND DAUGHTERS

Members of the Wellington Eotary Club, with daughters (either real or borrowed) had a particularly cheerful time at the luncheon party held at tho Jacobean Eoom at Kirkcaldio's yesterday. There were daughters of all sizes and ages present (it would hardly do to mako tho same romark about the fathers!), but in any case, all were out for pleasure, and the girls watched with keen joy tho many quaint customs of Botarians, the "fining" of members because of recent birthdays, or because they had only a borrowed daughter, or for "arguing" with the chairman (Mr. Frank Campbell) in one instance. All those "lines" were placed in the Sunshine Box, the contents of which bring so much pleasure and advantage to thoso who are unfortunately placed in these days of financial stress. The song of welcome, one of the heartiest possible, was sung-, and the chairman added some kindly and appropriate romarks, and then all had an excellent luncheon.

Padre 11. W. Newell pleased all by tolling a charming little story of the Devonshire pixies, instead of "taking the chance" with some instructive roinarks. The story had a littlo moral, but such a pleasant one that it added to the joy of tho story. Then followed three very delightful little bits from A. A. Milne, one to specially suit the girls, "A Good Little Girl," one for boys, although they were not the guests of the hour, "Bthelred," and" then "Missing," which appealed to all. They were excellently rendered by Mr. Clement May, and the pleasure given to all was apparent in the hearty applause given him. Ho was called up again, and the chairman made a small presentation to him from the club, and expressed the regret which all felt at his departure from New Zealand, and gavo hearty good wishes for his sojouru in America. Other good itoms wero given by Miss Evolyn Goldsmith ('musical monologue), and by Misseß Doreen Calvert and Doreen Purdie (contestants in tho competitions). The competition judg6s (Messrs. Howlett Ross, Vernon- Grijths, and Bonnett North) wero guests of honour at the luncheon also.

A. very happy function closed with the singing of "th.c Rational Antbcm.
