DAME MELBA'S PIANO
SYDNEY AUCTION SALE
A grand Leipzig piano used by Dame Nellie Melba for practice during her visits to Sydney was sold at auction last week for 23 guineas, states a Sydney paper. Tho piano, with other personal effects, was sold by Mr. James Lawsou, under instructions from Mi". Ernest Mitchell, brother of Damo Nellie Mclba, who is giving up his Double Bay home to reside in Victoria. An offer of 120 guinoas was refused for a Queen Anne bureau bookcase, in maple, which was purchased in Edinburgh some years ago. Among tho pictures sold was a Norman Lindsay etching, "Tho Death of Don Juan," which realised 10 guineas. An offer of 35 guinoas was refused for an oil painting, "Sunset at Yarra Glen," by tho late George Lambert.
