The' Thespians were honoured at their reading in having as their chief guest of tho evening, Miss May. McDonald, producor of the Napior Repertory Society. Tho members wore very glad of the opportunity of hearing her road tho part of Ann Hargreavos in tho play "Tho Wind and the Bain." This play, by the New Zealauder, Dr. Me'rtou Hodge, has had a most successful season in London, and is now running in Sydney. Tho reading, which was admirably cast, was enjoyed by a very largo audience who were unanimous in their opinion that it was the best yet held by tho society. Tho play itself, which is a very fine example of the art of playwriting, concerns the inside story of tho lives of several university students studying medicino in Edinburgh. The characters aro exceptionally well drawn, and ring very true to type.
