SOME DIFFICULTIES

KINGSFORD SMITH'S 'PLANE

AMERICAN CERTIFICATE

(Received August 2S, 2 p.m.)

WASHINGTON, August 27. It is understood that there- is som» possibility of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith's Lockheed Altair monoplane not being admitted to England . because the Department of Commerce here has not yet granted a certification of inspection.

The Department in response to representations from the Australian authorities has sought data from the Lockheed factory, but this hitherto has not been forthcoming, and there is some fear that tho Department may contend that it cannot issue a cerificate for. an aeroplane which it has not seen, and which was shipped from the country before it could inspect it for details on which admittance into England apparently depends. Every effort is being made to straighten the matter out.
