ELECTION OF GENERAL
GATHERING IN LONDON

In connection with the meeting of Salvationists to elect a new General of. the Salvation Army General Higgins presided at a crowded meeting in the Central Hall, Westminster, to welcome overseas delegates. The High Council is expected to be two or three days before secret ballots give the necessary two-thirds majority for election. Strong opposition is displayed towards a woman General, otherwise Kva Booth, daughter of the Founder, would have 'an excellent chance. Commissioner Mapp, Chief of Staff, and Commissioner David Lamb are other possibles. ' Hundreds, including many . lasses, were turned away, the hall being packed long before the start of the.most fervent gathering .in recent years. General Higgins declared that reports of intrigues and jealousies . were maliciously false.
General Higgins will not be present at the election.
