In the other match Brooklyn F.B. No. 1 well deserved their win over Hutt Valley, and displace Mirainiar as rnnucrs-up In this section. In the second section of tho grade Wadestown, who only required a. draw In their final round to secure top place, easily accounted for Ngaio. Tho remaining contest was that between Welliagton and Hutt Valley No. 2, In which match tho captains failed to agree on a decision at Board 1, and this has been referred for adjudication, the result of which is. not yet to hand. Tho final championship for the E Grade Shield has still to bo decided. This will be played off between Shell and Wadestown at a timo and place yet to bo fixed.

hi the C erado competition one or two matches deserve special mention. The most meritorious win was that of Brooklyn No. 3 over W.M.C. The Brooklyn sldo Is a team composed of boys of school age (tlio average ago being 14 years) and (hey are to be heartily congratulated on their convincing win over far more experienced players. The sldo is the youngest chess team playing In League \ matches In tne Wellington district and Is a direct result of the policy adopted some little time ,-iko by the Brooklyn Club to foster the game amongst the younger people. Similar schemes are already in operation in some ot tlio other clubs with marked success. Iv the remaining matches Shell secured their third win by beating a very much weakened Ngaio side, and displace Wadestown In second place, tho latter going down badly to Wellington. Wellington havu now considerably strengthened 1 their position at the head of the table, but as thero nro still two rounds yet to be played in this competition tlio position Is still open.
