COMPETITION AT RUAPEHU

THE CHATEAU, August 27,
Tho New Zealand amateur ski championships commenced at Ruapehu today, iv perfect weather. Men's and women's downhill races were held, the racing being very keen. Practically every skiing club in New Zealand is represented.
Results arc as follows:—
Men's Downhill—T. W. Mitchell (Ski Club of Victoria), 2min 8 4-ssec, 1; H. H. Elworthy (Tasman Ski Club), 2min 54 2-sscc, 2; Brian McMillan (Stratford Mountain Club), 2tnin 55 2-osec, 3. Next to finish were B. E. Murphy (Mount Egmont Alpine Club), A. Wigley (Tasman Ski Club), 0. H. Frankel (Christchurch Ski Club), W. Myhre (Christchurch Ski Club), H. Wigley (Tasman Ski Club), R. C. Murio (Ruapehu Ski Club), and J. Swan (Otago Ski Club). Twenty-five started at minute intervals.
Women's Downhill.—Mrs. A. B. Edwardes (Christchurcb Ski Club), 2min 18 4-ssec, 1; Miss P. Murphy (Mount Egmont Alpine Club), 2inin 22sec, 2; Miss J. Beale (Stratford Mountain Club), 2min 50 2-ssec, 3. Next to finish were Miss J. Murphy (Mount Egmont Alpine Sports Club), Mrs. H. Richards (Windwhistle Winter Sports Club), Miss B. Blunden (Tasman Ski Club), and Miss P. Bond (Ruapchu Ski Club). Fifteen started.
