RESTRICTION ON PORK
MR. FORBES HOPES FOR
AGREEMENT
(By Telegraph—Press. Association.) CHKISTCHURCH, August 27.
The lull in the discussion on possible meat quotas between New Zealand and Great Britain is because the Now Zealand Government is awaiting a reply to its recent statement and request concerning tho restriction of tho export of pork suggested by the British Government. This explanation was given by' the Prime Minister (the Et. Hon. G. W. Forbes) in reply to an inquiry made by a reporter tonight. Mr. Forbes explained that tho suggested allocation for tho export of pork from New Zealand to Great Britain in the proposals made by the British Government was not acceptable, and an endeavour was being inado to havo it amended. The Government preparod its representations and communicated them to tho British Government, but a reply had not been received.
Mr. Forbes said he was hopeful of a satisfactory agreement.
