AUSTRALIAN VISITORS

WIN AGAINST MOTUEKA

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

MOTUEKA, August 27.

The Australian hockey team defeated Motucka by 4 goals to nil in si rather scrappy game today. The combination improved towards the end, but the forwards lacked precision, and tho fieldinp; was poor. 'J lio match was played in glorious weather. The visitors considered that the ground was tho best they had yet played on, but they were not seen so advantageously as against Nelson. The Motueka team rose to the occasion, and the forwards were seen in many nice movements, but lacked finish. Australia had a two goals lead m tho first spell. Allen received from a free hit and beat the goalie with a low ground shot. The same player was rewarded I later by following in. and scoring oft a bounce. In the second half Allen received a high, pass and turned the ball into the not. Milner worked his side into a good position, passing to Minto, who dashed in and netted. The goalkeeper, Watson, proved safe, ana remained unbeaten. Elliott and Irvine iwere the best backs; Allen, after a shaky start, and Milner were the pick of the forwards. The former is a clever penetrating centre-forward. Gibbs, an ex-South Island representative, was one of the outstanding players. Feild was a very solid full-back, Whitwell was the best forward, and Ferguson and Webster were hard-working halves. •
