HARVEST MOON'S EFFORTS

(Special From "Limited.")

HAWERA, August 10. Interesting work is being performed daily on the'Hawera tracks by the horses engaged at the combined Hunt Clubs' Meetings to be held at' New Plymouth at the end of the month. Hawera etables will have strong representation, over twenty horses from this centre being booked to compete at the fixture.. R. Brough has been putting tlie work into the hunter Flower Bag (late Talkative), who is to race ,at the Pakuranga Meeting. On Tuesday he gave a capital exhibition of jumping over a round of the schooling hurdles. Brough is endeavouring to get his old apprentice B. Sullivan to pilot him at tho northern fixture. I. Tucker left on Tuesday for Riccarton to attend the Grand National Meeting. Tucker has been engaged to ride Riotous in the Grand National Steeplechase.

Stanchion, who has been schooling indifferently, is not making the trip to the. National Meeting and is being treated to a short let-up. ; _

Harvest Moon continues to impress in his schooling efforts, and it looks only a matter of his being able to stay but hurdles distances to prove a profitable proposition at the business. During the week ho went well over a mile, jumping six fences at racing pace and giving a striking exhibition until the last fence, which, evidently tired, he failed to clear, breaking through it. It is intended to givo him his initial race over hurdles at the hunt meetings. C. Jackson has been sending Aga Khan along, and on Tuesday he galloped him three furlongs in 38% sec. The chestnut should be ready to race at short notice. Tho hunter Cynical' Kid, in addition to giving a good display—bar jumping too high—over a rounds of the schooling hurdles, surprised by beating Richfield in a half-mile gallop covered in 53see, time that compared favourably with the other gallops of the morning and revealed that Cynical Kid' possesses more pace than was generally supposed. Carfex again put up the best track performance by comfortably beating Eara over half a mile in 52sec.

March Alone and Kaola gave . a good exhibition over the steeplechase country, March Alone showing decided improvement on previous efforts. Both horses should prove powerful contenders for the Hunt Cup Steeplechases. A regrettable accident occurred on Tuesday, and as a result the hurdle horseman W. Grindlay has been put out-of action for a month or cix weeks. The mishap came at tho end of a persevering effort to make the hunter Kaiteremai school. Usually a safe conveyance, Kaitel'emai showed n disinclination to jump, balking several times. Grindlay persisted with him, but after taking several falls ho finally suffered a more severe crash at tho hencoop, fracturing a collarbone. The occurrence is particularly unfortunate just now as Grindlay had several engagements at, the forthcoming meeting. Green Linnet has been recommissioned again! Looking iv nice solid condition, istio "signalised her return to track work by finishing alongside Onewhetu in a sprint over three furlongs in SO'isee. The Tiger is doing splendidly and sprinted three furlongs iv 38sec. . During O. Cos's absence R. Brough is looking after Friesland and the two-year-old Lowenberg. Friesland looks like being hard to dispose of in the novice events at the huut meetings. Lowenberg is fashioning into a fine big youngster with a tremendous stride, and showed in his efforts with Golden Promise that he could handle himself. By Lord Quex from1 the Chief Ruler mare Zarcue, this youngster promises to be heard from later on. J. Brown gave his gelding' Arouse a gallop over the first half-mile o£ a sixfurlong effort by Taitoru, the latter running out the journey iv lmin 20 3-ssec. Arouse showed his old facility of beginning, reaching tlie half-mile well in front in ii2sec. He is holding his condition now and has only to keep right to be an interesting candidate when stepped out. •■ Kuri lias been eased up for a spell, fet. Clara has been suffering from a sore heel, causing a slight swelling, but not preventing her from working. Old Waitaunaha pulled up very sore the other morning and is not likely to be-further persevered with. The Acre mare Gold Gleam is hitting out freely in 'her work now and is to run at the Hunt fixture.' .. .:„ ._. ' J. Brown's team for New Plymouth, will comprise Carfex, Harvest Moon, and Eara. Carfex will contest the open events each day, and Harvest Moon.is to run in the scurry the first day and the hurdle race on the concluding day.
