TEN-MILE RACE
YOUNG RUNNERS DO WELL
CLUB EVENTS
By "Trail-layer."
The younger members of tho local clubs cainc well to tho fore in the Vosscler Shield race last Saturday when tho gruelling nature of tho course called for the utmost in stamina and speed. Nine out of the first twelve mon home vvcjjp comparatively young runners, just at tho beginning of their athletia career. This is encouraging in view of tho fact, that during tho past few seasons representative teams have consisted almost solely of runners on the verge of retirement. J. Eiddington, tho first man home, ran a well-judged raco, and had sufficient reserve to make the last mile too hot for his elubmate, A. L. Stevens. Stevens ran his usual solid race, and although not first to break the tape, ho was only eight seconds behind, which is considered a close finish for.a ten-milo race. G. Prosser (third) showed great determination, considering that he had just recovered from a severe cold. His chibmate, Don. Pederson, staged a surprise when ho paced the field for over half the distance, finishing in fourth position. D. Woodloy, V. Tunbridge, .and G. Pavkhouse, all of Scottish Club, filled tho next three positions. These three have been running consistently throughout the season, and will be in the running for provincial honours. G. Bagnall was the ,first University man home, the heavy course being to his advantage. B. Garnham, Olympic Club, was suporior to the others of his team, while S. McKinnon led the Wellington team. The race was run under tho auspices of the Wellington Club, W. Whelan being marshal for tho day
