Now that a ■ constitution and programme of activities have been adopted, the Wellington Film Institute is organised to fulfil the function for which it has been established. Tho first general meeting is to.bo' held next Tuesday in the clubroom of tho N.Z.E.1., "Evening Post" Building. Tbo speaker for the evening will be Mr. K. GirlingButcher, who will traverse some sections of the Parliamentary report on the picture industry and explain many of tho problems of the production, distribution, and exhibition of film pictures.
There will bo an opportunity at the meeting 'for tho discussion of the following topics which camo before the executive council at a meeting hold last Thursday: (1) The retention of some form of Censorship Appeal Board; and (2) tho necessity for greater care in the selection of supports to pictures recommended by the Government Publicity or other Departments for display to schoolchildren. '
"RECOMMENDED TOR ADULTS."
Theexecutivo council has had under consideration tho problem of films recommended for adults. It is noticeable that on occasions there are few pictures being screened in Wellington that are not A. films. It is also noticeable in the Press advertisements of pictures that the instruction "Recommended for adults" is printed in such small type that often it is difficult to discover its insertion at all. There is a question as to whether young people under 18 should be admitted to A films, or whether those under 10 shpuld be admitted to A films unless accompanied by an adult. ■ Mr. Noel Gibson, secretary of the. Auckland Kirn Committee, is to be in Wellington on August 20 and -1.. A member of tho executive council, has been delegated to meet him to discuss tho possibility of enlarging the scope of tho Auckland Film Committee so that it may function as a film institUThe Wellington Film Instituto has also under consideration proposals .to link up with the British Film Institute and the Institute of Film Research, N ThoTpre'si&oiit. (Mr. W. A. Armour) and members of the council invite intending members and the public who are interested to attend the meeting on Tuesday.. Only members.will have power to vote on any question.
