ACROSS THE PACIFIC
COMMERCIAL AVIATION
NOTED PILOT'S. PREDICTION
(By' Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day.
On tho authority of Mr. Bernt Balchen, the distinguished air pilot, it is possible that seaplanes will be in operation in the course of two years between New Zealand and the United States, carrying: mails and passengers and taking 3J days on the journey, by way of Honolulu and Suva.
Mr. Balchcn said that commercial aviation was being developed extremely rapidly, and it was common talk in flying circles in the United States that the Pacific would soon be tackled by commercial airmen. .
It behoves New Zealand to be first in the field, .he said, ; othorwisc Australia may be. made the terminus.
He expressed surprise that .there was no air service between Auckland and Dunedin. The flight could be made in five hours. Thcro was no excuso for holding back with aviation at its present state of development.
