PREPARING CHALLENGER
MORE THOROUGH THAN EVER
LONDON, August 2.
The yacht Endeavour^ Britain's challenger for the America Cup, has been given a more thorough preparation than any other of this country's fifteen pro^ vioiis challengers, says:, the yachting writer of "The Times." , Summing up th« chances of tho Endeavour, the writer points \ouV th&t Mr. Nicholson, the designer; made his first attempt with so-called VJ-class hulls, now permissible in the America Cup race, with Shamrock V, which lost .owing to the defender being better equipped and handled.
Mr. Nicholson last year designed Velshoda, which was most successful, but Endeavour is a later masterpiece, whereas tin American Ejiinbow, belonging to tho J-class, apparently is no better than the 1930 boats. Indeed, Yankee or Weetamoe may be chosen to defend the cup. The owner of Endeavour, "Mr. T. O. M. Sppwith, experimented freely with rip sails, trim, and special equipment, and beat Velsheda five times and Won eight out of twelve regatta races. ■
