Recdrd -imports of fruit last year, mainly duo to tho exceptionally heavy supplies of oranges received, are reported, and a survey by the Imperial Economic Confercnco estimates the apparent. consumption per head in the United Kingdom for the yoar at BS.6' pounds. The previous record was established in 1930, when the average consumption was 85 pounds per head. The year's imports of fresh fruit from Empire sources represented 40 por cent, of tho total, and roached a new high level of 12,125,000cwt, exceeding by 1,500,000cwt the previous record established in 1932.
