ATHENIAN CLUB

Tho Athenian Club' held the eighth of its fortnightly gatherings in ,the elubrooms, Pharmacy Hall, when, despito bad weather, there was a large attendance of members' and many visitors. .

The president, Miv.A. H. Young, was in charge of the proceedings, and together with the following energetic eommitteo was responsible for the;, success of the gathering: Mr. W. J. Anderson (boh. secretary) land Mrs; Anderson (in sky-blue georgette and'lace), Mr. and Mrs. H. Strange-Mure (the latter in; black ring velvet), Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Monnie (the latter in wine lace), Mr. and Mrs. E. Loader (the latter wearing black windswept satin), Mrs. G. H. Howard (moss green marocain), Mrs. A. H. Williams (mustard crinkle crepe), Miss K. Stewart (groen frilled net), Messrs. H. D. Dodson, A. Hivon, A. Compton, K. Walshaw, L. Evans, N. J. McKensrie.

Excellent items were rendered by Mr. W.W.Marshall and Mr. Martin Liddle (songs), and Mr. E. North (humorous recitations). Miss Poppleton, who was in a smart costume of black velvet goorgette and sequins and was presented with a floral posy by the lady membors of the committee, gave a striking exhibition of acrobatic, dancing, which was greatly appreciated. Dancing was entered into with much enthusiasm, and, by way of a change, many old-time dances were introduced, and proved quite a success. "Lucky Spot" and "Lucky Partners" were won by Miss E. Sehultz and Mr. O. Ashton and Mrs. 0. Or. Franklin and Mr. J. Hibbard.

A delicious savoury supper was served by the committee. Tho proceedings terminated with a streamer dance and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" and tho National Anthem. ' •
