Tlio death is announced of Mr. George - Frederick Roach, who was Mayor of' Hastings for four years and Mayor at the timo of the earthquake. For many years' ho was head of Messrs. Roach, Ltd., a largo merchandise firm founded by his father 50 years ago. During a long record of distinguished public servico he was chairman of the Hawke's Bay Education Board, a member of tho Harbour Board, War Belief Association, and many other public bodies. His services as Mayor, especially after the earthquako disaster, in which his firm suffered tremendous losses, wore a notable part- of his fine record in public life.
