KING'S FILLY PURCHASE

Tho-King was a buyer of an interesting yearling, at the' 'Newmarket-1 sales this month. His racing manager, BrigadierGeneral; Tomkinson, went to 3000 guineas for, a very charming filly by Friar Marcus from Aloe, who was an own sister .to FoxL... ..The'youngster''.was'..bred by Lord St. Davids. Prince Aly Khan was in competition'with General Tomkinson. : All Lord St. Davids's yearlings went well, fop' price, 3500 guineas, was given by Mr.J. Lawson, who outstayed Mr. J. Jarvis iaHhe bidding for a bay colt by Foxlaw.-; from Celandine. The price jumped out to four figures in one : minute. Mr. Marcus Marsh took a typical bay son of' Son-in-law out of the Friar Marcus mare Dape Caution for 1350 guineas. Mr. P.. Alden paid 1150 guineas for a. brown 'filly- by, Son-iri-Law from Qiiceh of the Foam.', Lord St. Davids's offerings . reaJised 972O.guineas for seven lots, as against; i7OO guineas for ten lots last year. ; An ' all-quality, grey filly from Sir C: Pulley's Easton Bishop Stud, near Here-; ford, by Thyestes - from Homily's dam Molly,-by ;Happy Warrior, reached 2200 guineas, paid ;by Mr. F. Pratt, the Lambourn trailer. ; ■■ . , ■ ' The highest price so far was 6100 guineas given .;on the -first day by - Lord Ellesmerc for a brown colt by Blandford, from Tilia,1 the property of the National Stud. Blandford's progeny are doing exceptionally well on the. Turf this season. Mr. J. A. Dewar gave 3200 guineas for a bay ;filly. by Fairway from Sword Play; and the Hon. Dorothy Pagefc IOOQ guineas for a brown -filly by Royal Lancer from Fairy Godmother. Both were from the •National Stud. , '
