KILTOWYN'S REAPPEARANCE

(Special from "Early Bird.")

AUCKLAND, August S.

It i* possible that that, good horse Kiltowyu will-make his 'reappearance at Lhe Pa'kuranga Hunt Club's Meeting at KUeislie on Saturday week. Ho has been awarded top weight in 'the principal handicap, the Jellicoe Handicap, rim over his favourite distance, VA miles, and while he may not bo quite forward enough after his spell he should derive considerable benefit from the outing. An interesting entrant for the Jellicoe is the Parliamentary Handicap victor Gainsfid, who is not too highly assessed in being placed on 7.12, or 121b above the minimum, this representing the penalty i for his Trentham success. Last "week Gainsfid was beaten by Sunny Sky at Gisborne, but tho latter was in receipt oE weight. If produced in tho same condition as when he won at Tventhani tho Gisborne gelding may ■ play his part at lillerslio. Versant is nicely placed -in the JWlicoe with 7.5, and he ilooks like being the early favourite. He was not handled to the best advantage when he was so narrowly beaten at Pukekohe, and this may be. his chance, to make amends.' It is not going to be ;i large field, and what is more, it looks like being a fairly easy race to win. Vers'ant in his present condition is going to take beating.' . , ' Produced in the same condition as at the Great Northern Meeting, Tradesman would appear to have a mortgage on the open sprint at tho Pakuranga Hunt Meeting. He has been awarded B.G, and in view of his success two months ago ho has only to be right to lead the field home. He is not an easy horse to keep . right, however, and'he will have to be caught at the right moment. He ran a great race for third in the sprint the first day at the lust meeting at Ellerslic, and then on the second day ho led all the way over' the seven furlongs to head oft' a much better field than that by which he will be opposed next week. One of the best-known winter performers in the province in recent years has been Chromadyne, but he has been off the scene for sometime. He is also engaged in the sprint next week, and a good deal ot interest will be taken in his effort, ior he is a great mudlark. On looks alone Chromadyne is anything, but a prepossessing type, but handsome is as handsome does and ho has spreadcagled good fields at'-Ellerslie before today. , ' Englishman won the Hunters' Hurdles at the Kotorua Hunt Meeting last month, but it'can be said-with every truth that ho blundered bis- way' to victory. That effort should haVo improved him considerably, however, and with the experience he should be prominent in a similar-class event next week. He ought to account once more for London and Glenade.^ but it has to be remembered that the Ellerslie hurdles have to be jumped:: . Narrowly beaten in-'tho maiden event at Pukekohe last month, Gipsy Moth may make amends next week. The Romeo gelding is still a bit of a,- handful for his pilots, but once he settles down he may win good races. ■-.■■..', ■,■'■,., In the sprint on the final d«y of the Great Northern Meeting, Greek Gold just won and Grand Sport finished fast to nose Solomon out of second money. On hat effort the last-mentioned gelding appears to be a prospect in the sprint next week. He is-still well down in the weights, and light imposts seem to suit him best, but he does not relish the heavy going so often met.with'-at this period of the year..'--Imamint won so decisively at Pukekohe that she should go close to winning next time out. - Her success last "month was achieved over a seven-furlongs course, but. she should be. just as much at Home, over the sprint journey on a bigger, track. She is getting,up in the 'now, and with- 8.9 next week she will, have to perform up to her best to add to1 her winning record. In the same race is Impasto, who was only just coming to hand at the back end of last season.
